Welcome to Ali Hersi New Director at the SID Regional Office for Eastern Africa
Ali Hersi joins SID East Africa Regional Office
The Society for International Development is pleased to welcome Ali Hersi, new Director at the SID Regional Office for Eastern Africa. Ali joined the staff in Nairobi on November 1st, 2011, taking over the leadership of the regional office from Mr. Duncan Okello, who has since joined the Kenyan Judiciary as Chief of Staff in the Office of Chief Justice, in Nairobi.
Ali joins SID from CARE Somalia where he was recently its Program Quality Director. He has over 15 years experience in leadership, program design and implementation in various civil society organizations. He has managed diverse programs in the area of emergency relief & rehabilitation, peace-building & conflict resolution, food security & livelihoods, as well as general development, in Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia and southern Sudan. Ali holds an MA in Peace and Justice, which he completed on Fulbright and Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship, and another MA in International Relations. He is fluent in English, Somali, Kiswahili and Polish.
SID also bids farewell to its first Regional Director, Mr. Duncan Okello
Duncan joined SID in 2003 with the challenging task of setting up the SIDís first Regional Office. If SID East Africa has achieved today the great respect and attention of legislators, governments, civil society and the private sector in Kenya and within the broader region, it is thanks to his leadership, committment and tireless dedication. SID is very proud that his skills, knowledge and acumen are now being put to use in the Kenyan judiciary and wishes Duncan every success in this new endeavor.
