The privatization of the Post-2015 Development Agenda
Watch Roberto Bissio's contribution at the UN General Assembly event on 'The role of partnerships in the implementation of the Post-2015 Development Agenda' (April 2014). Roberto Bissio points out that information access is being made more restrictive under corporate pressure. Brazilian Ambassador Guilherme Patriota condemns the 'outsourcing of development responsibilities' and announce his country's opposition to the UN Partnership Facility proposed by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
The increased influence of corporations over the UN Development Agenda was also debated during the side event 'The Privatization of the Post-2015 Development Agenda: Issues and Challenges in Partnerships with the Private Sector' held at the UN Church Center, (8 April 2014, New York), with the participation of several civil society organizations. Different worrying trends were highlighted: the redefinition of ODA that will put more public funds in the hands of corporations, the lack of accountability of the different associations between corporations and UN agencies and the privileged access that big corporate players may be getting over international norm-setting.
