Open Letter to the President of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and to the Heads of States in the Americas 

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) is going through a severe financial crisis which may result having serious consequences on its ability to fulfill its mandate and carry out its basic functions. It has been reported that the commission has suspended hearings and is going through the reduction of big proportion of its staff. In such a difficult situation the Commission has expressed the possibility of approaching the private sector for financial support. 

SID joined FIAN and other organizations expressing their concerns about this situation.  

The letter was prepared by FIAN with the support of the Coordinate of the Campaign to Dismantle Corporate Power. The aim is to ask OAS Member States to secure the necessary funding for the good functioning of the IACHR.
