East Africa Today: An interview with Abby Plaatjes
In episode 6, East Africa Today interviews Ms. Abby Plaatjes, Founder and CEO of Black Ice PR and a co-host of the Big Easy on Tanzania's 102.6 Choice FM. East Africa Today visited Ms. Plaatjes at the Mediterraneo Hotel and over breakfast had a vibrant discussion about the music and entertainment industry in East Africa, how the radio industry has evolved in Tanzania and the challenges of being a risk-taker in East Africa. Ms. Plaatjes also talks about juggling her busy schedule and multitude of projects while being a parent of two kids; she weighs in on Princeton University Professor Anne-Marie Slaughter's popular piece "Why Women Still Can't Have It All."
Ms. Plaatjes first entered the public scene when she was a member of the first Big Brother Africa Show.
Since her 85 day stint in the house, she has been actively involved in Tanzania's entertainment, media and fashion industry. With numerous work done in film, television and music Ms. Plaatjes is broadening her horizons and trying to engage with the most competitive aspect of the entertainment industry, producing.
Having made her mark on East Africa Television (EATV) where she hosted the popular lifestyle weekly show "Nirvana" Ms. Plaatjes official set the bar in the entertainment industry especially after co-founding Runway Lounge, Tanzania's most popular lounge.
She has hosted various events in Tanzania including Miss Tanzania 2011, Miss Universe Tanzania 2011, Swahili Fashion Week in 2009 and multiple corporate events. On December 1, 2012 Ms. Plaatjes was a co-host at the 5th Annual Tanzania Red Ribbon Fashion Gala for World Aids Day in conjunction with Mtindo House and Flaviana Matata Foundation.
