African Strategies for Transformation. Launch event in Dar es Salaam

On Wednesday, March 20, 2013 the Society for International Development (SID) will be launching its latest journal Development on African Strategies for Transformation in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania at the New Africa Hotel Crystal Ballroom. The launch will begin at 9:30am and conclude at 12:00pm. Mr. Omari Issa, CEO of Investment Climate Facility for Africa, will be the guest of honor and will officially launch the journal.

The launch will provide a platform to delve into a variety of discussions on what transformation means for Africa and Tanzania. There has been a lot of excitement surrounding the fact that ‘Africa is Rising,’ but which Africa are people talking about? Which Africa is rising? Are we seeing transformation on the ground in Tanzania? These are just some of the questions we hope to answer with our panel of ‘African Changemakers,’ moderated by Mr. Charles Onyango-Obbo, Executive Editor for the Africa and Digital Media Division at the Nation Media Group.

Our panel of African Changemakers include:
Mr. Omari Issa: CEO, Investment Climate Facility for Africa
Ms. Maria Sarungi Tsehai: Director of Productions, Compass Communications
Ms. Vanessa Mdee: Artist, Radio Host of 102.5 Choice FM and MTV Base VJ
Mr. Sam Mwale: Member of Governing Council, Society for International Development
Mr. Gabriel Negatu: Regional Director for the East Africa Resource Center, African Development Bank

Join us in what will be a vibrant discussion about Africa and Tanzania’s path towards social, economic and political transformation.

About African Strategies for Transformation This journal takes its readers on a journey through the often-tumultuous changes that the continent has undergone in the recent past and which are continuing. The authors of the various articles – Africans and esteemed Africa-watchers analyse what these changes really mean in the long term. They reflect on the direction in which the underlying driving forces are propelling the continent. Furthermore, the journal also tries to understand how Africa’s place in world affairs is likely to change as a result of these positive developments and what this will mean in a world where power politics means everything.

The journal, which is guest edited by Mr. Charles Onyango-Obbo, Executive Editor for the Africa and Digital Media Division at the Nation Media Group, features a vibrant group of authors and includes engaging interviews with Dr. Donald Kaberuka, President of the African Development Bank and Ms. Hadeel Ibrahim, Director of Strategy and External Relations at the Mo Ibrahim Foundation. It also features articles written by Ms. Elsie Kanza, Head of Africa at the World Economic Forum, Ms. Elsie Eyakuze, columnist for The East African and blogger for the Mikocheni Report.
