SID's President Juma V. Mwapachu is pleased to announce the election of Mrs. Nohra Rey de Marulanda as SID's Vice President for the 2012-2015 period.
Nohra Rey de Marulanda is an Economist from the University of Los Andes in Bogotá and brings with her a large experience in the academic field, in the public sector and in international development organizations.
She has held numerous high level positions in public and private sector, and served as Deputy Chief of Colombia's Planning Department (Ministry), and Head of Colombia's INCOMEX (Trade Bureau). She was the Technical Secretary of the National Council for Economic and Social Policy and served on the Monetary Board of the Central Bank.
From 1989 to 1994 she served as the Manager of the Department of Economic and Social Development at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington DC. In 1994 she became Manager of the Trade, Integration and Regional Programs of the IDB where she remained until 2007. In this last position Mrs. Rey de Marulanda set-up and directed the Inter-American Institute for Social Development, INDES, which provided training in the design and management of social policies, programs and projects, with the goal of improving efficiency and equity in these areas in Latin America. Since 2007 Mrs. Rey de Marulanda has been an international consultant and has worked for the Economic Commission for Latin America, ECLAC, for the International Fellowship Program of the Ford Foundation, IFP, for the Secretaría General IberoAmericana, SEGIB, and as a founding member of CISOE ( Centro Internacional de Pensamiento Economico y Social).
Mrs. Rey de Marulanda has a M.Sc. in Economics from the University of Sussex, England. She was Professor in Economics, Director of the Graduate School for Economics, and Director of the Center for Studies on Economic Development at the University of Los Andes, in Colombia and Visiting Scholar of Latin American Studies at St. Antony's College in Oxford.
As Vice President, Mrs. Rey de Marulanda will join SID's President Juma Mwapachu and the other members of the SID Governing Council in the challenging task of defining and implementing a new network-wide strategic plan that will lead the Society to its 2015 World Congress.
