Gender
This section contains an overview of the two main gender events of 2009 and 2010: CEDAW and Beijing+15.
-CEDAW: 2009 has seen the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of CEDAW, the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1979. The Convention’s anniversary provided an occasion to celebrate its near-universal ratification, as well as the recent progress that has been made at the national level to implement CEDAW and make true gains for women’s and girls’ rights on a practical level. The 45th session of the Committe will take place next February in Geneva.

Member States, representatives of non-governmental organizations and of UN entities will participate in the session.
