Transformations versus Retention by Al-Amin Kheraj

by Al-Amin Kheraj. To transform, simply put, is to change significantly. In mathematics for instance, transformation implies that one set of variables in an expression are replaced with another set, or that one space maps onto another space.

To retain, similarly, is to recall experience. In learning for instance, retention implies the capacity to remember and re-use the material that has been learned.

Dreams vs Reality for East Africa, by Ruth Aine

by Ruth Aine. The East African integration process has gone through quite a metamorphosis dating as far back as the 1960's as envisioned by the late Tanzanian President Julius Nyerere. Gender equity: Kenya at crossroads

by Akoko Akech. Despite the promise of a new constitution, arguably, East Africa’s most progressive or liberal constitution, Kenya still has the lowest level of women representation in key places of decision making and could face a serious constitutional crisis, if it does not find a suitable mechanism for effecting several constitutions provisions on gender equity and representation, especially on parliamentary representation.

The Middle Path: Towards sustainability and global well-being

by Asoka Bandarage. The author argues that growing economic inequality and the distribution of resources and opportunities is the main social issue of our time. She explores the systemic roots of the current crisis through an integration of critical social science analysis and a universal spiritual approach to ecological sustainability and social development. She argues that the current crisis can be located in unbridled economic growth and the twin forces of capital and technology.
