SID former Vice President Jos van Gennip receives the decoration of the Gran Cross of the Order of Bernardo O'Higgins

The SID Secretariat is honoured to announce that Jos van Gennip - former president of SID Netherlands Chapter and former vice President of SID - has been awarded with the decoration of the Grand Cross of the Order of Bernardo O'Higgins, the  highest Chilean government honor awarded to non-Chilean citizens. The award is the recognition of the work done in the last fifty years in Chile by the Dutch development assistance in the resistance to the dictatorship and in support to the transition towards democracy.  In his address speech, Mr. van Gennip said that he considers this award as a tribute to the Netherlands' development assistance as an effective tool in the transition to democracy and as a prominent instrument in the promotion of the rule of law and of the protection of human rights.

Jos van Gennip is former member of the Upper House of the Netherlands' Parliament and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Foreign Affairs of the Senate. He was director of the Scientific Bureau of the Netherlands Christian Democratic Party and has had a long political career within this party. He has held leading positions at various Dutch development NGOs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs/Development Cooperation. He is foudner of Cebemo, now Cordaid. He is President of the SOCIRES Foundation, Centre for Society and Responsibility, and former president of SID Netherlads Chapter and former vice president of SID.
